Notification regarding the status of politically exposed persons (PEPs)

In accordance with the provisions of Law No. 308 of 22 December 2017 on the Prevention and Combating of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing:

Family members of a politically exposed person are:

a) The spouse of a politically exposed person or a person in a relationship equivalent to that of a spouse with the politically exposed person;

b) The children and their spouses, or persons with whom the children are in relationships equivalent to those of spouses;

c) The parents and siblings of a politically exposed person.

A politically exposed person is a natural person who holds or has held prominent public functions, as follows:

a) Heads of state, heads of government, ministers, deputy ministers or secretaries of state;

b) Members of Parliament or similar legislative bodies;

c) Members of the governing bodies of political parties;

d) Members of supreme courts, constitutional courts or other high-level judicial bodies whose decisions are not subject to further appeal except in exceptional circumstances;

e) Members of courts of auditors or the boards of central banks;

f) Ambassadors, chargés d’affaires and high-ranking officers in the armed forces;

g) Members of the administrative, management or supervisory bodies of state-owned enterprises;

h) Directors, deputy directors, members of the board of directors or persons holding equivalent positions within an international organisation.

Persons known to be close associates of politically exposed persons, both professionally and socially:

a) Natural persons known to be joint beneficial owners, together with a politically exposed person, of a legal entity or legal arrangement, or who have any other close business relationship with such a person;

b) Natural persons who are the sole beneficial owners of a legal entity or legal arrangement known to have been established for the de facto benefit of a politically exposed person.
